Hydrothermal Spire

These chimney shaped structures are formed from dissolved minerals pushed upwards through the planet’s crust. The presence of metal sulfides gives the escaping material its dark, opaque appearance.

Aquatic life found in proximity may have evolved adaptations to the presence of these toxic compounds.

Assessment: Long term exposure to geothermal emissions may pose a risk to human health.
